Practical Mindfulness - June Edition

Updated: Jun 26, 2019

Welcome.  There is something intrinsic in human nature that has us strives to survive, adapt to adversity and want to thrive. More often than not, there are mountains to climb, challenges to overcome and truths to be realised.

Why People Reach For Clarity.

People who seek to improve their life experience share a common state of being.

It is resilience.

Resilience has many associated skills such as courage, stamina and determination. Thwarted expectations and defeat are main contenders of upset for someone who is resilient. Left unattended, these out-of-balance states can lead to lifestyle dis-eases.

Another contender for upset is it's shadow - Rigidity. Whereas resilience offers an openness to try something new, rigidity will not. Rigidity protects the status quo by being closed or hardhearted. Rigidity showcases prominent skills of control and self-preservation. To secure a fixed position in beliefs, attitudes and actions, force and energy must be exerted.  Therefore the upset for this shadow is exhaustion. Without energy, critical needs cannot be met leading to a break-point. Thwarted expectations, feelings of defeat (powerlessness, frustration, anger, anxiety) and elements of exhaustion (fatigue, boredom, low self-worth), foster an internal environment of chaos. There is little certainty, the mind is switched on 24/7, and life is unpredictable.

What's missing is Clarity.

Clarity is the rudder that precludes right movement. Without clarity, the ship of your life will continue to go around in circles, perpetuating a whirlpool of chaos.

To gain clarity, you need order and logic, which opposes chaos.

This is where the attributes of resilience are re-organised. In balance, resilience builds mental and emotional fitness to action beneficial life choices. This form of personal development retrains the mind to think differently and in accordance with your soul-full values. Right movement becomes a natural outcome.

Self - Awareness is ...

A conduit between your inner world and current reality. Self-awareness has two tiers. The first is self-inquiry - knowing how to ask good quality questions and be observant. Inquiry of a personal nature researches trends by gathering information of thoughts, emotions, physical/material wellness and values. The second tier is the art of listening. In Buddhist circles, listening is referred to as a healing art. To truly manage and create your life experience, you must develop mastery over your inner world, and to do so with compassion.

Personal bias is influenced by belief formulated by the past. In the Enhances Awareness model personal bias, belief, behaviors and actions document life experience as a limited personal narrative.

There are 60 statements in The Enhances Awareness Profile. Below are four statements that generally become problematic when there is no practical, structured self-inquiry. You may recognise one or more of statements as challenges within your personal or professional life.

A Practical Mindfulness Strategy.

One of the common challenges for people is how to retrieve stillness when things don't go as planned.

  • At first, clarity often highlights the gap between where you are now and where you truly see yourself in your life.

  • This can trigger feelings of overwhelm.

  • It is easy to default to a familiar set of behaviors.

What is needed is a plan and assurance it works. Remember it is likely that you have a certain amount of resilience mastery. Now you can apply it to a well-thought out plan and the good news is ... you don't have to do it.

The Mindfulness model creates the environment to accept new possibilities. By simply reading and rehearsing the formula below, over time, the mind adapts to thinking differently and right movement/action will follow.

Real Stories from our members

I had come through a very challenging period. I was exhausted and sensitive. This led my behaviors to being very reactionary in all areas of my life. I knew I needed to work with someone that wasn't afraid to challenge me or be put off by the fact that I am incredibly well-skilled in my field.

I feel very blessed to have worked with Anna by my side. Anna is a fantastic coach that caused me to think from many different angles and allowed me to dialogue and process my insights openly.

The mentoring process gave me the opportunity to:

  • Understand why I was acting the way I was and,

  • Explore where I wanted to go and,

  • What I needed to do to stay there.

I started to view my world differently and for the better. I stopped believing I had to fight my way through. Now, I have deliberate focus and a much greater understanding of my drivers. I have practices that respect  my overall values. I take a much gentler approach in how I manage my life forward professionally and personally.
